About Me

COVID-19 AND ONLINE SESSIONS - In response to the present pandemic, I am only offering online therapy including brief online stress management and resilience courses of 3-4 sessions at a reduced rate. Please email to find out further details.

I am an accredited counsellor and qualified EMDR therapist. I offer online video counselling throughout the UK and overseas.  Normally I am based in Eastbourne and in the City of London.  I have worked as an NHS counsellor and with a bereavement charity.  My specialist areas include working with anxiety, trauma/PTSD, bereavement, childhood issues, low self-esteem and work related issues.

Counselling with me is not about giving advice nor is it me listening to you in near silence.  It is about working actively together to enable you to gain new perspectives about yourself and your situation. It is about helping you to resolve your difficulties, find new ways of coping or give you a greater sense of control and choice in your life.   Everyone is different and your needs will be unique so I draw on a range of approaches to provide the right support and assistance for you.

One of my approaches is EMDR, a NICE-approved therapeutic technique now used in the treatment of a wide range of psychological and emotional problems. The model for this is that many of our difficulties are rooted in experiences in the past.  Using left-right brain stimulation by eye movements or tapping, EMDR stimulates the brain processing system to:

- process traumatic memories and experiences so that we can stop being affected by them, change unhelpful patterns and develop more positive, realistic self-beliefs and behaviours.

- manage anxiety and other difficult emotions by activating our inner resources, positive thoughts and feelings.

Before training as a counsellor, I worked in the media for over 20 years as a documentary filmmaker. I worked with people from a wide variety of backgrounds, countries and cultures often in periods of emotional difficulty or uncertainty. I learned that having the time and place to share our innermost thoughts, feelings, and experiences is a valuable healing and empowering experience.

My years in the media industry also gave me first hand experience of a high pressure, demanding work environment and struggling to manage the work-life balance.
