Sarah Ballingal
Integrative psychotherapistAbout Me
My approach is grounded, warm and welcoming. I understand how daunting it can be to begin to share one's innermost thoughts and feelings.
I have over 20 years' experience working as a counsellor and psychotherapist in both short and long term therapy. I offer a safe, empathic and confidential space to those wanting to make changes in their lives and who are looking for professional support in helping to bring this about.
How can psychotherapy help?
Psychotherapy can be helpful when facing the many challenges that life presents. These can be sudden - including loss of any kind, or natural life transitions. Either way, uncomfortable feelings can arise and therapy offers a space to look at the feelings and importantly, the opportunities that may present themselves through the particular issues being brought. I am particularly interested in exploring the origins of repeated patterns of unhelpful behaviour which despite a person's best efforts, continue to recur. Therapy can also help to uncover hidden meaning and purpose and to affirm a person's strengths and qualities beginning to emerge.
Approach to working together
I place great emphasis on understanding the client's point of view and to that end adapt my approach to each individual. My integrative training means that I can draw on a variety of therapeutic models. Our work together may include exploration of dreams, creative imagination, visualization, nature-based practices, listening to the body's wisdom, and the arts. There is no one-size-fits-all and regardless of the skills and training of the therapist, it is the quality of the therapeutic relationship and the ensuing collaboration that is at the heart of meaningful psychotherapy.
