About me
I have a Masters in child and adolescent psychotherapy and I'm trained to work with children and adolescents at the deepest level. I combine a psychodynamic understanding of unconscious process with art and play therapy, the 'talking cure', and an understanding of neuroscience, trauma, attachment patterns and neurodiversity. I have worked with children aged 5 up to the teenage years and offer both long and short-term therapy, in-person or remotely. My clients usually love their sessions with me (the feeling is mutual) and I've worked with wide variety of emotional and behavioural difficulties. The mum of a recent client told me, 'N has really enjoyed her sessions with you and I think it's been very helpful. We still have our ups and downs of course but I think she's in a much better place'. I'm also trained to work with adults, and my experience with children brings a unique perspective to that work. I believe our childhood fundamentally shapes who we are as adults, so I explore with my clients how past experiences intersect with current relationships. An understanding of the past can often make sense of today's challenges. I can also be particularly helpful to parents and anyone else with young people in their care, offering reflective parenting insights and strategies. My integrative training means my clients and I find a way to work together which suits them best. For some people this might be an opportunity to talk through difficulties and shape a new, more coherent narrative about their lives. Others may find art therapy, which draws on the power of our intuitive and creative right brain, most helpful. Here’s some feedback I received from a recent adult client: 'Laura is sympathetically inquisitive and instinctively followed my train of thought whilst questioning my internal assumptions in a compassionate and constructive way. My time with Laura was incredibly valuable and quickly improved my ability to positively evaluate and manage relationship challenges.' I have a background in journalism, marketing and content design for the private and public sectors. I am also mum to two grown-up children.
