Larissa WalkerIntegrative psychotherapist
Hi, I am Larissa. Before training as a psychotherapist, I spent decades working in the business world. In my psychotherapy approach, I use several clinically-proven theories and try to keep an open mind when deciding how to help. For example, I use attachment theory, which is now supported by evidence produced by the discoveries of neuroscience. In the world of psychotherapy, this is called the 'integrative' approach. A humanistic philosophy lies at the core of my approach - a belief that we are all born free and with a unique potential. Barriers to realising this potential may appear throughout our lives. They may be imposed by our families, communities, and the wider socio-economic situation in the world around us. I focus on exploring these barriers and behavioural and relational patterns they create. Awareness facilitates other choices and possibilities which bring growth and change.
I am also a relational psychotherapist. In relational psychotherapy, the therapeutic relationship is fundamental for a change to occur. It is a non-judgemental, non-guiding relationship that provides space for you - the client - to explore yourself and grow. This enables a new self to emerge, a self that is freer in expressing itself, understanding, and following its needs, so that you can develop in your own unique way, independent of the circumstances that affected or are continuing to affect you.
