About Me
I am an accredited BACP therapist, with 17 years of experience providing therapy for adult clients with mild to moderate mental health problems, both online and in person, short and long term. I am also an ACTO Senior Professional Member (Level 3) and Senior Online Supervisor. In my 17 years of experience as a therapist, I worked with clients from different cultural and socio-economic backgrounds struggling with lifestyle changes, experiencing anxiety, depression, PTSD, bereavement, current and past domestic violence and sexual abuse.
I use an integrative approach encompassing psychodynamic, person centered and relational psychotherapy in my clinical work. I apply psychoeducation when required, in order to help clients understand themselves better. For example, in bereavement work, the client may think that feeling low may be a sign of depression. However, I explain the stages of grief to highlight that feeling deep sadness for the loved one is a natural part of the bereavement process, while depression is where the cause of sadness is usually unknown. Clients often find this shift in perception a comforting first step in coming to terms with their grief.I bring attachment theory and developmental stages into my therapeutic work.
I look for the attachment style in my clients and if there were any relational traumas. I incorporate neuroscience into sessions, focusing on how trauma affects the brain and the nervous system, how trauma is transferred across generations and how to work with trauma. I have supported clients through complicated bereavement due to unresolved past and present traumas. I think of Polyvagal theory when working with trauma, which guides me in supporting and regulating the client during the sessions.
