About Me

Hi, I am a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Chartered with the British Psychological Society and registered with the HCPC. I have extensive experience working in NHS Acute Trusts and independent practice since 2010, and a social care history prior to this. My NHS work has focused on individuals with physical health difficulties and trauma.

I work collaboratively with you offering a variety of different models and ways of working, adapting to what you are experiencing, your goals, strengths and preferences. Ultimately, I believe that helping people to feel safe and building trust is the key to success in any psychological approach we may be using.

I have experience and successful outcomes in using EMDR, Brainspotting, Acceptance and Commitment therapy (ACT), CBT, Mindfulness based exercises, relational, compassion focused, clinical hypnotherapy, Somatic Experiencing and body therapies, such as yoga for trauma. These can be integrated appropriately according to your needs, wishes and at the right time during your therapy.

All of these approaches can be delivered online with success, it just demands more creativity on my part and an openness on your part :-)

How an Initial Session Works

We will work together to identify the aspects of your life which are causing you distress or unhappiness during an assessment session, and decide which approach/set of approaches may help. You may have had past experiences which you would like to work on or it might be more related to your recent life circumstances, or a combination of both. Initially, we will need to talk about whatever difficulty you are having, how this is affecting your life, any ideas you may have about where this has come from and what you hope to gain from therapy. This will start to form a psychological assessment which helps you and me to formulate what the problem is and how to address it.

I will ask about your interests, strengths and any preferences regarding therapy that you may have. What's worked before, what's not. Some people have a lot of ideas about their problems and others do not. Don't worry about this as it's my job to help you figure these out.

I am skilled at working with people with multiple problems which may all interrelate, for example, physical health conditions and the impact on the rest of your life.

I will want to keep you safe and take therapy at a pace that works for you.

If we are planning to meet more than once, I may set you some tasks to do between sessions which we can then talk about next time.

Please do feel free to send me a message with any questions you may have and we can arrange a brief call if you would like to get a 'feel' for whether we could work together.
