Jill Newman
Integrative counsellorAbout Me
I offer counselling to help with a range of mood issues. Also, I specialise in pre and post-natal problems.
I am based near Wellington in Somerset. Sessions can be online or in-person. This is a quiet, countryside location for you to unwind and discuss where you are with things. We can work sitting inside, outside in the garden, or walk as we talk – depending on the weather!
It’s a convenient location, being half a mile off the A38 and just five minutes from the M5, Junction 26.
My pre and post-natal specialism started specifically with early pregnancy loss, including miscarriage and ectopic pregnancy, as I worked for several years in an NHS Early Pregnancy Unit. This very real knowledge of what parents-to-be face when things go wrong, helps me quickly understand and empathise with anyone who has faced this particular trauma. I'm privileged to have worked with people from all walks of life, supporting them in their distress, dealing with painful emotions, and seeking to reach a place where it feels ok again to face the day.
From this starting point, the areas I have helped people with have expanded to include various pre and post-natal problems, including IVF, foetal anomaly, post-natal depression, anxiety and so on. Whatever it may be, I am very happy to have a conversation with you and together we can see if we think it would beneficial to arrange an appointment.
The same goes for mood issues, such as anxiety, anger, sadness, and grief – please feel free to get in touch for an informal chat, to find out if I might be able to help.
When you’re feeling really stuck with something, probably one of the best things you can do is tell someone how you’re feeling. Tell the truth of what’s happening for you. This helps you to understand yourself better, and once that happens things can start to change. What’s sometimes needed is someone impartial to hear you with kindness and compassion and without any judgment. Someone who is trained to listen and who cares deeply. Our work together is entirely confidential.
I am registered with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), assuring you that my work is professional and ethical.
I have a Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy and keep my knowledge up to date with continuous reading, research, courses and regular supervision.
Most recently I have completed a Creative Arts Counselling Diploma. I also enjoy writing for wellbeing, poetry therapy, mindfulness and the benefits of being outdoors!
I am an integrative counsellor, meaning that our work together will include what’s happening in the here and now, how the past can still influence you in the present, and how we all sometimes get into the groove of unhelpful thinking patterns. Working collaboratively, we can bring some of these things into your awareness and practise some helpful techniques. Then you can start to change your thinking, shift your mood, move forward, improve your wellbeing, feel happier…whatever it is that you are hoping to achieve.
