About Me

The Therapy Shed®

I work online and face to face with people over 18 to improve their relationships, because life is all about relationships.  However, the most important relationship you will ever have is the one you have with yourself.

If you have found me here, then you may be experiencing some of the following things:

  • You are overwhelmed with anxiety, rage, anger or depression
  • Your relationships are strained or breaking down
  • You have lost someone
  • You cannot voice what you need
  • You cannot find your way
  • You have an inner voice that is really mean

So you may need some help to understand these things, to begin to make sense of your thoughts, feelings and behaviours, other people and even the world.  We have relationships to everything, including ourselves, and relationships are vital to our mental and emotional wellbeing. We form relationships (attachments) from birth and this is necessary for both survival and development.  But sometimes our attachments are less than secure and as we go through life we may be confused as to why:

  • Relationships keep ending the same way
  • Why we keep feeling the same old feelings
  • Why we engage in behaviours that are harmful
  • Why we keep telling ourselves that we are not good enough or believe everything is our fault
  • We feel that we cannot get close to people

Well, this is where I can help because I believe if we are fully connected to ourselves and who we are then everything else begins to fall into place. Relationships become more intimate, fulfilling and stronger.  We have the courage to ditch relationships that are not good for us. Emotions become more manageable, harmful behaviours lessen, we feel lighter, happier and able to make good decisions.

Sometimes it may be very difficult to talk to family and friends about all of this because we fear judgement or believe that we are a burden, or maybe we just don't want to.

So what is counselling?

It is your time to work through what may be keeping you stuck, so that you can then move forward in the way that you wish.  It is a place where we learn about ourselves and others around us.  In our busy lives we may not have the time to think or to process anything.  We may be rushing around from one thing to another.  Maybe we have a demanding family or job, or maybe we just need a trained therapist to be with us while we work all this out.  In counselling you will have the space, free from interruptions, to focus on you.  It is your time for self care.

So, if you have decided that counselling is something that you would like to try, you may be feeling very anxious about opening up to someone you don't know.  This is a big first step and if you haven't had any counselling before it may feel really difficult.  So apart from looking for a counsellor who holds the right qualifications, it is important that you feel comfortable with them.

Training and qualifications

My training is Integrative to Foundation Degree Level, which means that I have studied a variety of counselling theories, science and psychology modules because I believe that not one way of working fits all client needs.  I am an Accredited Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I work to their ethical guidelines.

I am an Attachment Counsellor/Psychotherapist and hold a Level 5 Attachment Psychotherapy qualification so I work with attachment and relational difficulties.  I work with difficult emotions such as anger, rage, depression and anxiety.  I work with bereavement, with people who feel lost, with trauma, with people who just want to understand why they think, feel or behave the way that they do.   I work with parents and with counselling students.  I am trauma trained to the New Haven Competencies, am an Internal Family Systems informed therapist and trained in the Compassionate Inquiry approach developed by Gabor Mate. I use the Psychodynamic approach as well as the psychoanalytic theory of Transactional Analysis.

Continued professional development (CPD) is something that I am passionate about and I take up various training courses throughout the year, where I gain new skills or build on my existing knowledge.
