About Me

March 2020 update:

If you are looking for support in these challenging times or to navigate the transitions that will be needed, I am here. Please get in touch!

All of my sessions are being handled through phone or video (FaceTime, WhatsApp, Skype or Zoom) so I am fully available through this period, no matter where you are.

I accept health insurance referrals and self-funding clients

I am also offering some free online therapy slots for NHS workers during the coronavirus pandemic. Please ask for details.

You seem to be the most experienced therapist ... in the City of London (MR London)

I'm really surprised at how different I feel. Before, I just thought I was an anxious person and could do nothing about it. Now, I realise that the way I think has been causing that anxiety. Thank you!   (RH, Norwich)

The difference since our first session last week is incredible. I came with nothing, and left with so much. It's been life changing.  (SW, London)

What you offer is unique... Not only skilled at psychotherapy but also in working with the creative process. I had been thinking of working with a writing coach, but I get all that and much more with you...  (JK, Norfolk)

I am a leading psychotherapist, mindfulness consultant, executive coach, clinical supervisor and trainer. Regularly featured in Psychologies magazine. I am also a consultant specialist for national and regional media such as The Telegraph, Evening Standard, BBC News and BBC Capital.

I have been in practice since 1993, and have a particular interest in working with high achieving professionals and creative people. My specialist areas include stress, burnout, creativity, quality of life and deeper self connection.

I offer appointments in London's Harley Street / Great Portland Street area, the City of London, Hoxton E2 and also via Skype, so you can get help no matter where in the world you are.

Clients often find me through word of mouth recommendations. I also receive referrals from other health professionals, such as doctors, cosmetic surgeons, occupational health professionals and dental surgeons. I am also registered with most Employee Assistance schemes and health insurance policies which may cover the cost of sessions.

The combination of skills I offer is unique in the UK. As author of The Burnout Bible (and 'Entertaining An Artist: Vegan. Wheatfree. Handful!', available through my website or major online retailers), I am one of the UK's leading specialists in stress, burn-out and work/life balance. Many people don't know that there's a difference between stress and burnout, or that each needs a very different approach. That's where my specialist know-how comes to the fore, to help you back on your feet in the fastest possible time.

I work from an integrative approach, informed by humanistic and psychodynamic philosophy and mindfulness ways of working, but I draw from the best of other approaches too, such as cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), depending upon your needs. I am able to vary my style from fairly structured to fairly loose, according to your preference. By working collaboratively we can arrive at the most appropriate working style for you, so please do let me know if you'd like us to adjust anything.

I have been working with mindfulness-based approaches since the early 1990s. My MA thesis examined how mindfulness (in the form of the felt sense) could be found within most schools of psychotherapy and distilled key principles for working with mindfulness within a psychotherapeutic approach. In 2014, I took part in an innovative pilot scheme on Mindfulness and Weight Loss. In 2018, I completed a Certificate in Third Wave CBT, covering contemporary CBT approaches based on the principles of mindfulness.

My specialist areas

I have a particular interest in working with:

  • stress, burnout and work-life balance (with a special emphasis on the particular needs of high achieving professionals and people in the creative arts)
  • quality of life issues (including mid-life crisis, life goals and spiritual values)
  • the creative process
  • mindfulness
  • personal / professional development, including a deeper self connection

My sessions are usually highly sought after, so do please contact me about arranging a session so that we can make a start in the earliest possible time. Sessions need to be paid for at least 48 hours in advance.

PLEASE NOTE that the Welldoing appointments diary only shows appointments that use the Welldoing system to pay the session fee. It's fine to request a particular session time and date, but do be aware it may already be booked off system. I will let you know if this is the case, and we can look for a mutually convenient alternative. Please ask about Norwich appointments, as these are not currently shown on the calendar.
