Ivy Kirk
Person-centred/humanistic therapistAbout Me
I am a qualified psychologist, with training in hypnotherapy and psychotherapy, and a member of the BPS. I have 15 years experience helping individuals experiencing mental health difficulties such as depression, social anxiety, panic attacks, OCD, early trauma, sexual abuse, domestic violence, relocation, living with Asperger's and ADHD, mood and personality disorders, anger, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties or more generally finding meaning in life.
My approach
My background is in developmental psychology and psychopathology - what goes on in our brain in the early years and how we learn to respond in our own unique way to circumstances in our life. My approach is integrative, a fusion of evidence based psychological therapies and hypnotherapy, to promote self-discovery and healing at a deeper level.
What to expect
There is a general misconception that hypnosis involves some loss of control. In reality, all hypnosis is self-hypnosis and I am here to guide you. As a rule of thumb, during sessions, we will spend some time discussing your issue, and the rest of the time using hypnotic procedures which I will prepare specifically to access your unconscious resources and engage them in personal transformation. Most people find hypnosis enjoyable and relaxing.
Sort-term goal orientated therapy - between 6and 12 sessions - may be for you if you want to resolve a specific issue, for example it you have identified a pattern you would like to change. Longer term work may be right for you if you are going through a difficult time and need ongoing support, or if you are interested in exploring and healing yourself at a deeper level.
Taking the first step
If you wish to book a chat, this will give you a first impression, to see if you feel comfortable working with me. In the initial assessment, we will discuss what brings you to therapy, with no obligation at this stage, as I recommend that you take time to reflect on whether you are ready for therapy and whether we are a good fit.
I can offer sessions in English or French, online or face-to-face following Covid-19 guidance. To find out more or discuss your personal issue, please don't hesitate to get in touch.
