About Me

Hello, my name is Helen. I am a counsellor and therapist working with adults and young people either online or in person at A Space To Be You in Hackney, East London. I have particular experience of working with people living with anxiety, depression, addiction, loss, stress, relationship difficulties, identity questions and suicidal thoughts.

Here’s a little bit about what it would be like to work with me:

I work psychodynamically which means we will get curious about your internal world as well as what’s going on around you in your life.  We’ll look at what’s happened in the past in order to shed light on what’s happening for you in the present, and we’ll pay attention to unintentional habits that might be holding you back from living the way you want to live.

Together we will create a space in which you feel seen, heard and safe to explore and express yourself. We will think about how the messages you received from the world around you as you were growing up have affected the way you feel about yourself and how you relate to the people and events in your life. Feelings that have been pushed down or cut off because they were too big to deal with at the time might come up and we will work through them together.

Being human isn’t easy and we each walk a uniquely challenging path. The ways we coped with the challenges we faced in the past were the best solutions we could manage at the time, and they worked well enough to get us to where we are now. But as you get to know yourself more deeply, you will start to find new ways of being and relating that feel more comfortable because they better reflect who you are today.

I’m also an advanced yoga and meditation teacher, so I bring an awareness of embodiment as a way of developing a more intimate relationship with yourself. By connecting with your internal sensory experience, you will get in touch with emotional parts of yourself that you might be less familiar with. I am here to help you meet these parts of yourself with compassion, and through acceptance of yourself as you are, to create the opportunity for growth and change.

I am a psychodynamic psychotherapeutic counsellor, but my practice is influenced by the humanistic approach to therapy as well as Eastern philosophy, psychedelic therapy and the latest neuroscience.

Getting Started

In the first instance, I suggest a free 20 minute video call so you can get a flavour of what it would be like to work with me. This gives you the chance to tell me a bit a bout what’s going on for you at the moment and ask any questions you may have.
