About Me

                       How I can help

Asking for support from a counsellor can be challenging and take a great deal of courage. It is common to try to deal with problems affecting our mental health alone but I can help. Counselling provides a confidential space which is non judgemental and allows autonomy. I listen to my clients and help to promote healing from difficult experiences being from the past or present. I believe that talking to a trained professional in a safe environment can improve symptoms and aid wellbeing. By using empathy I endeavour to gain a true understanding of your difficulties. Counselling can support you to understand yourself and empower you to make decisions.

                      How I practice

I am a BACP registered counsellor and I own a private practice in Forest Gate. My passion is that clients receive easy access to psychological therapies. I strongly believe that counselling can support individuals with psychological difficulties such as anxiety and depression. My counselling style is integrative and I practice by using principals of Pertruska Clarkson's 5 strand model. This style of counselling incorporates person centred and psychodynamic elements. As a result the issues worked on can be explored in both the here and now and by past experience. Primarily the therapeutic relationship between client and counsellor is vital in my work.

                       My experience

My experience includes counselling those who have experienced bereavement whilst working at St Christopher's Hospice Sydenham. In addition I have worked for Mind and counselled clients who have had a range of emotional difficulties. I am extremely experienced in working with cancer related issues, and have worked in the NHS for seventeen years. I initially trained as a Therapeutic Radiographer at University College Hospital and have worked at St Bartholomew's Hospital. I was very active in psychological support for cancer patients while working in a hospital setting. Currently I work for a professional agency of counsellors and psychotherapists who counsel those who have experienced cancer.

My current work in the NHS

Working with Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) has given me experience in using Cognitive Behavioural Therapies. Being employed with the NHS has made me aware of the needs of clients facing complex issues. I have worked with clients from different races, cultures, learning needs, and sexualities. Currently I use NICE approved guidelines to asses and/or treat those with Depression, Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD), Social Anxiety, Panic disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

I abide by the BACP's ethical standards and ensure I have regular supervision when in practice.
