Emma Rowlands
Integrative counsellorAbout Me
COVID-19 UPDATE: I am still working! All sessions taking place online or by telephone. I will resume to working in SE1 later in the year. Please enquire for details.
About you
Have you had experience of therapy before which was partly helpful but not enough? I offer an approach which is informed by and builds on the pioneering work of the early names in this field, and which also incorporates new and emerging forms of therapy. My approach is based not on management of symptoms but on deep and lasting recovery.
Whatever you're struggling with, I encourage you to reach out to a professional, and to know you’re not alone. I have experience working with a wide range of issues including: trauma, addictions, stress, depression, bereavement, phobias, relationship problems, and illness - including illness not responding to medical interventions. I am often approached to work with "millennial issues" for those in their 20s and 30s, and enjoy working with older people too.
About me
I work as an integrative counsellor / therapist. This means that rather than offering a one-size-fits-all approach, I am able to draw on a number of frameworks including psychodynamic, relational, body-orientated, and trauma and recovery informed. I also have a specialism in emerging forms of psychotherapy which include somatic and cognitive aspects. I tailor your therapy to fit your needs, time-scale and personality.
Timescale
There are benefits from both short and long term work. I offer solution focused therapy which is usually 6 sessions spent on a single issue. I also offer long-term, open-ended counselling / psychotherapy to address difficulties on a deep and lasting level. It is not unusual for me to see a client for many years and this can be very rewarding for us both.
Who I work with
I am LGBTQI + affirmative and I enjoy working with people from many different walks of life, and a broad range of backgrounds, nationalities, beliefs, faiths, presenting issues – and eccentricities! I warmly invite you to make an appointment with me to explore your situation further.
Further Training
Motivation to combine the wisdom and expertise of the past with contemporary efficient and effective approaches to therapy, has led me to do additional training in progressive and emerging approaches to dealing with unresolved internal conflict and trauma. I have found these safe and gentle ways of working a real "game changer" for my clients and in my own healing journey.
Prior and subsequent to training in integrative counselling / psychotherapy at the Minster Centre, London, I have trained in a number of specific techniques, including approaches which fit under the umbrella terms “Energy Psychotherapy” & “Energy Psychology” - for more details see my qualifications below. I am continually on the look-out for ways of deepening and refining my practice in service to my clients.
Location
I operate an established private practice in central London (near Waterloo and Lambeth North stations) and online. During the Covid -19 pandemic I am working online and by telephone with a view to operating a combination of online and face to face work later in 2020.
