Integrative counsellorAbout Me
It's not always easy to make the decision to ask for help - but what would it be like to be able to loosen the hold of old hurts which are making you live a smaller life?
How can I help you?
I work with people who are feeling
- anxious
- depressed
- lonely
- not good enough
- unloveable
- unhappy with their coping mechanisms
- unable to control their emotions
- unhappy with their relationships
- ashamed of their past
- hurt by their childhood
or who have many other reasons for unhappiness.
How I work
I meet my clients in my counselling room in Harpenden, on webcam, or by telephone. I also offer walk and talk therapy in the Harpenden area.
We can arrange a set number of sessions to focus on a particular issue, or you could opt to see me for as long as you find our sessions useful.
I offer regular weekly sessions where we will talk about what life is like for you, what might have led to any difficulties, what aspects of life you would like to change, and how you can make that change. We celebrate your successes.
I believe that our minds and our bodies are interconnected. Our bodies are affected by our emotions – think of the cascade of fight or flight hormones that is triggered when we are afraid, readying us to act quickly on our instincts. Our body may hold a memory of past experiences which have made us feel that we are in danger.
It is through our bodies that we gather information about the physical world, and our bodies also give us information about whether an experience is good or bad for us – think of our gut feelings about a situation or a person.
And so we will not necessarily limit ourselves to talking in order to use the information our bodies can give us. I may invite you to tune in to your bodily reactions – do your hands want to make fists? What is your gut telling you? I may also invite you to try simple body-based exercises which can move us through our emotions, rather than getting stuck in them, and release traces of old hurts held in the body. This is known as Energy Psychotherapy, and these exercises can become part of your self-care system between sessions.
I have seen my clients leave behind old hurts, learn to like themselves and achieve a new sense of wellbeing through counselling. It takes courage to seek help in improving your life, but that decision is life enhancing.
How to get started
If you want to learn more, please message me to arrange a no obligation phone call.
If you decide to work with me, we can set up an introductory session to see how we go, and take it from there.
About me
I started my professional life as a secretary, then worked with languages in a Trade Union organisation, and as a divorce lawyer. I have been unemployed, and raised a family, now adults. I have lived as an outsider abroad, and as an unremarkable person in the UK. The common thread in these experiences is my interest in people, and how events affect them. I have experienced the highs and lows of life, and bring this experiences and the compassion they have taught me to our sessions.
