Charlotte Jarvis
Integrative therapistAbout Me
I’m Charlotte, a qualified counsellor and hypnotherapist from Hadleigh in Suffolk.
Now in my late fifties, I've weathered a variety of work and indeed, life experiences. Having been “at the sharp end” for a few years, I am very aware that life doesn’t always run smoothly and the challenges with which any one of us can be presented often require some help and support. As an empathic practitioner, I can provide you with such help and support. By understanding and respecting your value as an individual and that of your own unique situation, I will tailor your therapy specifically to you and your needs.
I have a background in working with a variety of people in different situations. As an integrative therapist, I use counselling and/or hypnotherapy to assist clients who want to alter habitual behaviours and manage issues relating to anxiety in its many forms. In addition, my particular areas of interest involve engaging with people who are struggling with problem addictive behaviours and/or unhealthy relationships.
Many people worry that, when they attend counselling, they will be expected to talk about their past in great detail. Whilst exploring past events can, in some situations be very helpful, it is by no means always necessary. Pluralistic counselling is a humanistic, integrated approach. This means that you, my client and I, your therapist collaborate together to find the most effective ways to help you. Much of what I do with my clients involves us working to establish goals, make decisions and find solutions. I can present you with different options, but it is you that chooses which to take.
I believe that the most important part of therapy is the creation of a trusting relationship. I offer a safe, empathic and non-judgmental space for you to explore your life and your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. For me, this feels a little like contemplating a large tangle of multi-coloured embroidery threads. Over time, together we can separate the strands into their individual colours, making some sense, gaining some clarity and seeing a way forward, enabling you to consider alternatives and try things for size. When all is said and done, you are the expert in your own life...my place is to accompany you for a little while on your journey as you discover those strengths within yourself, helping you to achieve your goals and fulfil your potential.
Talking therapies should be available to all! So, along with my private practice and my work in education, I spent two years as a voluntary counsellor with Iceni, Ipswich and I am also a registered hypnotherapist and counsellor with Anxiety UK. I am therefore happy to negotiate pricing options in exceptional circumstances. I offer face-to-face counselling and/or hypnotherapy from my own cosy, comfortable space or online therapy for those who prefer not to travel.
