My work as a counsellor
I draw on many years experience with extensive experience of counselling carers, people who are bereaved, and also within a hospice. During this work, I also supported clients through a range of life issues including sexuality, stress, anxiety, low self-esteem, relationship issues, social isolation, and low self-confidence.
About my counselling approach
I am an integrative counsellor which means that I draw on a number of different approaches to inform my practice. As every person is unique, not everybody works in the same way. I work in a way that is professional, empathic, warm and attentive.
I will aim to help you gain self-awareness, insight and clarity in the here-and-now through listening, being present and creating a safe space for you to explore feelings confidentially and without judgement.

What happens in your initial appointment?
The initial appointment is a 50-minute assessment session. This gives you the opportunity to experience my therapeutic approach without any obligation to continue, and to ask any questions you may have. There will be an opportunity for you to reflect on what brings you to counselling and what you hope to gain from therapy.
After this, if we decide to work together, we would then discuss and agree on how we would work together going forward. These arrangements would then be reviewed between us regularly. If I think that a different counsellor or organisation with a different, approach, skill-set or expertise, may be better suited to support you and your needs presently, then this would be further reflected upon either during or after the initial appointment.
Counselling sessions usually take place at a set day, time and place each week
What are the next steps?
If any of this resonates with you, you're most welcome to contact me.
We will then aim to schedule a brief telephone conversation at an agreed time to talk through practical next steps. The best times to speak are usually between 5pm and 10pm on weekday evenings.
I'll do my best to answer any questions you may have. You may also visit my professional website to find out more www.catrinevanstherapy.com
