About Me

Welcome!  I am an experienced Integrative Psychotherapist, registered with the UKCP and BACP.   I offer short and longer term counselling and psychotherapy for adults.   I am also training as an EMDR practitioner and subject to assessment, can offer these sessions at a slightly reduced cost

From 2018, I worked in many community settings, including the Mid Sussex, Horsham, East Sussex and Arun Counselling Centres.   I currently work as an Integrative Psychotherapist for Psychology Sussex, Hove.  I have been in private practice since 2019.

Before training as a psychotherapist I worked as a teacher and then had several professional roles within the health and social care sector.

I have considerable experience working with and supporting a range of individuals.  I have particular experience of working with:

* depression and anxiety

*general life stress

* work issues

* relationship issues

* different kinds of life trauma

* different kinds of loss or bereavement

* difficult life transitions (earlier, mid or late life)

* lack of meaning or purpose to life

MY APPROACH

I work with individuals face to face and offer both short-term or longer-term more in depth work.   I also have limited online availability.  Central to my work is my aim to create a safe, supportive, therapeutic relationship.  I do this by:

*Offering a confidential space for you to explore what you want to bring.

*Creating a respectful non-judgemental relationship with values difference and diversity.  I am an LGBTQIA+ affirmative practitioner

*Bringing clarity to our initial sessions about the way I work, what I can offer you, what you might gain from the sessions.

*A commitment to listen to an understand things from your perspective.  It is important that you feel heard.

*Working relationally at your pace to help you make sense of things.   As in integrative practitioner, I use a range of approaches tailored to your needs.

*Valuing always your innate wisdom and strengths.  Building and developing your own resources.

*Building in regular reviews, to make sure that the work continues to meet your needs.

.

FURTHER INFORMATION

My style is warm, collaborative, flexible, exploratory and creative.  The theoretical approaches I integrate mostly into my practice are drawn from the psycho-dynamic, humanistic and existential traditions.   Because sometimes, it can feel hard to understand feelings or put them into words, other cutting-edge approaches I use include the following:   neuroscience and trauma theories (creative ways to work with the brain and nervous system), sensory motor psychotherapy and body approaches, Internal Family Systems (a useful tool to work with trauma), creative approaches (spotify music lists and arts interventions).

WHERE AND HOW I WORK

My practice is based in Church Road, central Hove, East Sussex.  There are easy bus and train links and parking nearby.   I understand that it can feel hard reaching out and so if you are interested in working with me, you are welcome to drop me an email.  I will then arrange an initial free 15 minute telephone conversation with you before we decide to meet.   I then offer two initial sessions which will give you an opportunity to share what is concerning you.  We can also see how it will be for us to work together, to see if I am the right person for you.  If we decide to work together, I suggest regular reviews to make sure we are staying on track.

I am an ethical practitioner and my two regulatory bodies are the BACP and UKCP.  I continually update my knowledge and skills by attending regular professional development activities and clinical supervision with a senior practitioner.
