About me
I offer a supportive space to talk What would it be like to wake up one morning and feel that life was easier to manage? With the right support, positive change is possible. Taking the first step towards getting help can feel daunting, and you may not know what to expect. I aim to put clients at ease from the moment we first speak. Many people wait a long time before seeking support, often feeling they should cope on their own. In reality, reaching out for help is a positive and courageous step, and therapy can provide the space and support needed to begin making sense of things. I offer relaxed, practical, and non-judgemental sessions. If you are local to me in Guildford, Surrey, I also offer “Walk and Talk” sessions (weather permitting). Some clients find this a more relaxed way to begin therapy and appreciate the benefits of fresh air and gentle movement. Experience and approach There is a saying: “The answers are already within us.” I believe there is great wisdom in that idea, although at times it can be difficult to hear our own inner voice. Clients are the experts in their own lives. They are in the driving seat, and I work alongside them as they move forward on their journey. My role is to help people reconnect with their own strengths and move forward with greater confidence. I am a fully qualified and BACP accredited counsellor with 25 years’ experience. I specialise in trauma-related issues, including domestic abuse (supporting both female and male survivors), sexual abuse, and post-traumatic stress. I understand that talking about traumatic experiences can feel very difficult, and you will always be in control of what you choose to share and the pace at which we work. I have extensive experience working with people from different cultural backgrounds, including within a rehabilitation service supporting traumatised individuals from overseas. I am comfortable working with interpreters where needed. I have also worked within the NHS IAPT service providing time-limited therapy. My core training is in the psychodynamic approach, which explores how past experiences can influence the present. Over the years I have developed a more holistic and flexible approach, tailoring therapy to each client’s needs. For some people it is helpful to explore the past, while others prefer to focus on present-day challenges – both approaches are equally valid. What counselling can offer • A safe and confidential space to talk openly without judgement • Greater understanding of patterns that may lead to negative thoughts or behaviours • Support in coping with life’s challenges and regaining a sense of control • Development of practical ways to make positive changes First step I offer a free 20-minute initial phone call where you can ask questions and we can explore how I might best help you. There is no obligation to continue.
