Integrative counsellorAbout Me
My journey to being a counsellor began when I became childless not by choice, and found it hard to get empathic support from someone who understood what I was going through. I was determined to be able to support other men and women in the same situation as me.
I trained in the person centred approach, which is characterised by empathic understanding of your experiences, feelings and needs, realness in the counselling relationship and unconditional positive regard for you. These principles remain at the heart of my work, and I pride myself on the quality of the therapeutic relationship I create with my clients. I have completed further training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, sand tray and art techniques and now work in an integrative and humanistic way, prioritising your experiences and feelings, responding to you empathically and offering creative ideas and techniques for working with whatever you bring.
I am compassionate, empathic, accepting and creative. I will value you exactly as you are, listen fully to you, understand what is going on a deep level and offer practical ideas for how we might work together.
I believe that each of us has the capacity to heal, grow and be proactive in making the life we want, but sometimes need some skilled support to be all that we can be. I'm not here to judge you or decide what is best for you, or to tell you what you should or shouldn't talk about. You, not me, are the expert in your feelings, experiences, wishes and needs. I will work alongside you, support you, explore what is difficult and what is important, and support you with whatever you bring, no matter how difficult.
I specialise in working with people who are childless not by choice. I also offer general counselling to people aged 16+. I am an LGBTQ+ affirmative counsellor.
