About Me

I specialise in assisting adults who are experiencing anxiety, depression and anger. These issues commonly show themselves through difficulties in relationships within family, social situations or work, and there is often a feeling of being caught in a web of emotions and behaviours that is intractable.

My training and background allows me to help you untangle the strands of what is going on and steadily regain a sense of yourself as a whole and healthy human being.

When you enter my practice room you are entering a space that is confidential and non judgemental. This allows you to relax, to be yourself and explore the issues that are causing distress. Unlike in many other areas of life, the therapist is not an 'expert'. In the therapeutic process you are the only expert on you. The skill of the therapist lies not in fixing your problems but in journeying with you in your own discovery, helping you to see what is there and perhaps has been there all along.

I believe it helps if the therapist has some experience of what it is like to experience mental distress, and I have had my own struggle and journey with this - particularly with depression as a young man.

Ultimately it is you who will make the changes within. Once you have seen the patterns, there is no going back. The solutions tend to offer themselves, and the rest is up to you. With the clarity that comes from this process you can once again cope with stress, enjoy home and work relationships, and feel a renewed sense of yourself and purpose in life.

Fees

My standard fee is £57 per session.

For a long time however, I have been aware that people on very low incomes find regular therapy out of their reach. In this sense therapy can be seen as largely for the well-off.

I would like to do something about this, and am introducing a 3 tiered pricing structure to allow for at least some diversity of income amongst people seeking therapy.

My aim is to invite those on higher incomes to pay a higher rate, which will hopefully not create hardship for them, but make them feel good about helping those on lower incomes access much needed therapy. Each session paid at a higher rate will directly offset the fee of someone receiving therapy at a reduced rate.

FEES:

Standard fee: £57 per session.

Equalising fee: £68-78 per session*. Please note there is no obligation to contribute beyond the standard fee.

Concessionary fee: £45 per session.

* I have kept these rates as fee ranges to allow for flexibility. I will discuss each clients needs individually and aim to settle on a rate which fits their circumstances. I will not be ‘means testing’ anyone, this system will be based on honesty and trust.

The more people I see at the equalising rate, the more I can see at the reduced rate. If the day comes that I have more fees being paid at the higher rate than reduced rate clients I will either change my advertising to let more people know I offer reduced rate sessions, or rethink this approach. Either way I think it will be a day to celebrate!

Training and qualifications

Qualifications and memberships:

Diploma in Gestalt Psychotherapy with the Welsh Psychotherapy Institute

UKCP regstered full clinical psychotherapist

Accredited Psychotherapeutic Counsellor with the National Counselling Society – MNCS(Accred)

I have been in private practice since 2014 and am offering one to one sessions in Exeter and Crediton. I am working face to face and online during the pandemic.

I have been a boy’s mentoring group leader and have been involved in men’s groups over many years, giving me insights into men’s issues, particularly around power, self worth and sexuality. For over 20 years I have studied and practiced in spiritual traditions including Tantra and Advaita(Non-Duality), which have given me a perspective on the whole human being that includes our essence as pure consciousness.
