Mateja Brvar
Integrative therapistAbout Me
I have been working in the mental health field for the past 20 years in different settings, from the NHS, community outreach to mental health charities, and as a therapist for the past 13 years. During my extensive experience in the NHS, I have had the privilege to be on the therapeutic journey with thousands of clients with so many different backgrounds, complexities and issues. My therapeutic approach is integrative, drawing from humanistic, cognitive behavioural and psychodynamic models. As every individual is unique and no one model fits all, I am able to be flexible and creative in the way I work, tailoring your therapy to suit your individual needs and preferences.
Anyone can find themselves in a difficult or a crisis situation in the course of their lives, reaching their capacity, not feeling themselves, wondering why they are not coping as well as they used to. Suffering is common human experience and something we all share. I also believe that every person has their inner strengths and abilities to find their best way through life’s many challenges. Life however can throw us challenges that are better navigated through a shared experience in a relationship that is supportive, unbiased, non-judgemental and compassionate. I offer a safe and warm space that will allow you to comfortably share, move forward, grow towards a person you want to be or gain new valuable insights.
We can explore how you have arrived at a point of particular difficulty, what has shaped your experience, how you see yourself, the world and your relationship with others, how have you coped and what strengths have you been drawing from. With this increased awareness, we can then explore what has worked and hasn’t worked for you, what your values are and find ways forward that would aim to not only alleviate suffering but to give you a more fulfilling and enriching life.
I offer therapy for the following issues: depression, social anxiety, health anxiety, generalised anxiety, panic, phobias, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), self-esteem, relationship and intimate difficulties, stress, adjustment difficulties, health issues, COVID-19, trauma, bereavement, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). I offer individual therapy, couples therapy and EMDR.
