Louise Herbert
Transactional analysis counsellorAbout Me
Hi, I am Louise. Are you feeling overwhelmed and struggling to cope at the moment? This can feel difficult to deal with on your own. Talking therapy can help make sense of your thoughts and feelings, leading to feeling less stressed and anxious. I know that looking for the right therapist can feel daunting. Any contact you make with me is confidential, and we can arrange to have a quick chat by phone or zoom to discuss things and for you to decide whether you feel I may be the right therapist for you.
On a face-to-face basis, I offer both individual and couples therapy in either Hove or Lewes East Sussex. Alternatively, I can see you online.
What to expect:
I work in a collaborative way, and see our therapeutic relationship as being dynamic, respectful, and non-judgmental, and central to our work where we would come to an agreement together of what you would like to explore further.
We will talk about what difficulties are troubling you, how you feel they may have developed or continued, and what you would like to get out of our sessions together. We can also discuss whether we feel you would benefit from short-term, more solution-focused work (normally around 8 to 20 sessions) or from longer-term open-ended therapy. It can be helpful to have check-ins with how you are finding our sessions and to review your goals and aims regularly.
I am trained in Transactional Analysis (TA) which is a widely recognised form of therapy that draws on a range of methodologies, such as psychodynamic and relational, which can give you a greater understanding of your personality and why you think, feel, and behave in the way you do.
It is a flexible approach that can be tailored to your individual needs and as such I offer:
Short-term counselling:
Focused on identifying those issues that are causing you difficulty in your life, enabling a greater understanding of them and for you to decide what solutions or changes you may want to make or to find effective ways of coping with them.
Open-ended long-term psychotherapeutic counselling:
Aimed at gaining greater insight into the issues you are facing which can lead to a greater understanding and acceptance of your emotional difficulties, internal conflicts and past experiences to facilitate a happier, more fulfilled life through better connection, communication and relationship with yourself and others.
My Clinical Experience:
I have experience as a therapist, in private practice, for the NHS and various charities including Anxiety UK and a Sussex based hospice.
It is not always easy deciding to come for therapy and it can feel hard making that first contact. I offer an empathic and confidential space for those times where you may feel that you are not living the life you want to live due to emotional difficulties or that your life is being limited in some way by past events or present circumstances.
Counselling and psychotherapy can be helpful for not only those life events which cause us great distress but also for those times where you are feeling stressed or overwhelmed and life has become a struggle.
