Dr Laura Thompson
PsychologistAbout Me
An experienced Chartered Coaching Psychologist, I work with clients to create a safe, containing, space to explore your personal, professional and well-being goals - and move towards them with energy and intention.
My approach - compassionate, relatable and gently challenging - is based on nearly two decades of working, studying, practicing and researching in psychology and behavioural science.
During this time, I have developed my own coaching framework that helps you to discover patterns that maintain ‘stuckness’ and navigate these more purposefully. We’ll build awareness around important barriers and provide the techniques to move you towards what matters, capitalising on your strengths. I draw on a range of evidence-based psychological models such as Acceptance and Commitment Coaching, Compassion and Solution Focussed Coaching, positive psychology, the science of strengths and performance and somatic psychology. I work with my clients to gain perspective, clarity, and develop the right personalised psychological tools to support change. Above all, we’ll build a safe, warm and down-to-earth relationship.
I have experience in contexts including mental health services, academia (at Senior Lecturer/Programme Director level), psychological research, private practice, NHS and management consultancies. My background integrates expertise across psychological wellbeing, stress, anxiety, occupational health, behaviour change, communication and performance. I am also an active advisor on research trials of new coaching and therapeutic interventions, which feeds back into my practice and keeps it fresh and science-backed.

In our first session, we’ll establish a shared understanding of what has brought you to coaching and a plan for our ongoing involvement.
I offer support that fits your life. You can tailor the times, length and frequency of sessions, and how long we work together. There's no minimum commitment.
Please note I am only currently accepting new coaching (not therapy) clients. We can discuss whether coaching is a good fit for your needs in a free 20 minute intro consultation. If therapy is more appropriate at this time, I will make onwards recommendations.
