Joanne Freeman
Integrative counsellorAbout Me
Hello, I'm Joanne, I'm trained as a trauma informed therapist and I integrate different types of therapy to help you, which makes my counselling bespoke to you as, in my opinion, one size does not fit all.
My counselling service can help you to overcome issues including depression, trauma, anxiety, burnout, PTSD and panic attacks; of which I have a special interest in, having suffered with these conditions myself. I've seen many clients significantly recover using science based techniques that you will learn through the counselling process. When you're choosing a counsellor, as well as experience and qualifications, it's very important that you find someone who you have a connection with. Research proves that the client/counsellor relationship is as important if not, more so, than qualifications and training. You are far more likely to progress and recover and have the motivation to do the therapy work if you like your therapist and you connect with them. I can assure you that I'll do my best to help you feel at ease at your first appointment and it is something I pride myself on, of which you will see feedback I have received from clients, on my website.
As well as my private counselling practice, I work part time for Barnardo's as a family support worker, dealing with domestic abuse, facilitating parenting programmes, and childhood issues. And in addition to this, I work freelance for a wellness company, delivering mindfulness based stress reduction workshops in various different companies. Historically, I worked for the NHS for 5 years as a Health Improvement Practitioner, running groups for weight loss and behaviour change.
When I started having counselling in my early 20's, it was a game-changer, I learnt things about myself and others that I would never have learnt anywhere else, and it inspired me to train and qualify as a therapist. It took many years to accomplish, but well worth it.
I consider myself to be a very approachable and welcoming person, with a sense of humour that is appropriate as well as necessary in these stressful times we are currently living in. I am conducting video sessions as well as face to face - following GOV guidelines.
I hope you find success in your therapy and please see my website for further information.
