About Me

Welcome to Jimi Katsis Psychotherapy & Counselling

My Name is Jimi D Katsis, I'm a psychotherapist based in Bristol, that said I support people through my online sessions, all over the world.

I became a psychotherapist because I believe that with the right input and support, people in the most difficult circumstances and mindset can transform. I've been a witness to that transformation so many times, it's one of my greatest joys.

Who Am I?

I was born in England in 1961 and grew up in the gritty east end of London. My parents were both Greek Cypriot immigrants and I had three older siblings. After School, I went to college and studied Psychology before going to University to gain a BA in Counseling Psychotherapy. I spent 4 years working for a local authority as a junior therapist working with young people and adults in Crisis. After this, I also gained my qualification in Social Work. I went on to work for Social Services offering support to both foster carers and young people in the care system.

After gaining a wide range of in-work training I became the director of a National UK Charity that specialised in Crisis intervention providing therapeutic intervention and services to Adults and young people. My final role was as a director of a National UK company that specialised in crisis and trauma intervention.

I have been involved in private practice as a consultant psychotherapist, coach, and mentor for over 22 years. I organise workshops and training for a range of methods including mindfulness, CBT, DBT (to name a few)

I have a wide range of therapeutic qualifications and over 25 years of experience providing therapeutic strategies

I support adults experiencing depression, anxiety, abuse (past and present) Trauma, and especially those experiencing a crisis brought on by past memories or current life events. I specialise in helping to develop strategies that enable change of habits and environments leading to happier more fulfilled lives. I have worked with clients with a wide range of personality disorders.

Therapeutic Processes

I use a combination of several types of therapeutic interventions including; C.B.T (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) D.B.T (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) C.P.T (Cognitive Processing Therapy for PTSD and Complex PTSD) Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic therapy.

What can I do for you?

It's incredibly hard to see a way forward through a crisis or a trauma. When unresolved past experiences lurch up from the past and dominate the present. For those around you, it can be disturbing and frightening, especially when at times we have lost control or broken down. Only you know the voice inside you. When you are experiencing a deluge of emotions and reactions to things that others seem to brush off when you lose control or feel overwhelmed My role is to offer a safe space where you can begin to unravel the reasons and feelings that surround you.

My focus is to provide a non-judgmental, confidential, and trusting environment to begin working through the issues that brought you to seek therapy.

I will provide information and resources specific to support what you are experiencing and my focus is to make sure you are fully informed and knowledgable, that you are connected to the most current information available.

The first session is always free so we can check out if we fit, to see if I can help you.

How does it work?

We make an appointment for a free session using our own in-house video platform. We will share your story and talk through some initial options. I will then prepare a treatment plan and sessions that we will chat through. Once it's all understood we begin treatment. As well as our weekly or bi-weekly sessions you will be able to text or message me if you need to, especially important during the start of the program.

We will have regular reviews and feedback so we can make sure the treatment plan is working and make any changes. Therapy is a dynamic process so we need to be flexible in our approach.

Outcome

The best outcome is that you walk back into your life happier, positive, and energised. Within our sessions, there are elements of training so that you are better able to navigate and understand the way you think and be in much better control of your emotions and reactions. It should feel like you have gained a tool kit for navigating your whole life. For some people, it's like finally having the code that explains how you got to where you are and how you get to where you want to be.

Specialisms

Although I support people with a wide range of psychological distress if have a particular interest in trauma, specifically survivors of childhood trauma. I deeply understand the impact of difficult childhoods and the long-term debilitating effect this has. For many, it can feel like experiencing a life that is disconnected, just going through the motions.

What now?

This is the hardest part for many, the first step.

Request an appointment. There is no cost for the first session. There is no risk. Every discussion is in absolute confidence. I will never share your story, name, or information with anyone.

I hope that all helps to clarify who I am, what the process is, and how easy it is for you to make a start on getting better and feeling better. Get in touch now and let's begin.
