James Dawe
Integrative psychotherapistAbout Me
My name is James and the way I practise psychotherapy is fundamentally very simple and straightforward.
Life is difficult. This a great truth. And for many of us, at times it’s so difficult that we need some assistance to unlearn our blind spots and blocks.
I believe that, essentially, a skilled psychotherapist is able to appropriately love their clients back to health. This is often necessary in a society in which money, power, the intellect and “success” have taken precedence over the truly rewarding things in life: love, connection, intimacy, contentment, happiness, joy and fulfilment.
I always explore a client’s life from the perspective of attachment theory. This is a psychological theory concerning early relationships between human beings. Attachment theory proposes that young children need to develop a healthy, consistent, “good-enough” relationship with at least one primary caregiver for normal social and emotional development. This gentle exploration always reveals insights into the client’s present issues and possible ways to address them.
I have over thirty years experience in the field of recovery and addiction, including seven years at The Priory Hospital in Roehampton between 2001-2008, and consequently, I have a wealth of experience in working with both addicts and their families.
In our sessions together, we can consider alternative perceptions of you, your life, the world and beyond. We can explore the webs of conditioning and judgement that have been overlaid upon your true self. You can then entertain radically different possibilities in terms of how you perceive life, increasing self-acceptance and inner peace.
If any of this resonates with you or you’d like to ask me anything, please get in touch and we can discuss your situation in greater depth.
Take care,
James
