About Me

Hello, my name is Ian and I offer private counselling based from my home office near Basingstoke in North Hampshire.

I offer counselling and Hypnotherapy to any adult (18+). Sessions are offered by telephone, Skype or face to face at my home therapy room. . I completely understand that Covid has been very restricting for many and therefore I encourage you to choose the means of communication that best suits you.

Unlike many Counsellors, I prefer not to adhere to any one particular approach, method or model of counselling. I believe that each person’s needs are unique and that a singular approach will not suit everybody. I would rather focus on developing a positive working relationship with you using a flexible approach to the many techniques available, to us, combining the strengths of multiple theories in order to apply those that are most beneficial to your specific needs. I also maintain a strict confidential, moral and ethical stance. Nothing that you bring to your counselling sessions are shared with anyone else.I came to counselling quite late in life and was prompted to retrain after a number of traumatic life experiences. Gaining an understanding of psychotherapy has helped me reach a point in my life where I can honestly say I am finally comfortable in my own skin. I hope to be able to help you achieve the same.

I currently volunteer some of my time as a counsellor for a national bereavement charity, helping people deal with grief and loss. I am passionate about bereavement counselling and believe that the empathy and understanding I provide will help you feel supported and understood and ultimately able to work through your anxieties and worries. I am also a trained Mental Health First Aider, and have experience of the demands and issues associated with large scale corporate organisations.

What should I expect from Counselling?

The counselling and hypnotherapy I provide will allow you the space, time and opportunity to discuss in a confidential environment, anything that may be worrying, overwhelming, or simply holding you back from being the person you want to be. The therapies that I offer, can help you overcome any obstacles from your past that are impacting on your present, and working together we can find a way to help you move forward in life.

The worries and anxieties that you may choose to bring to our sessions may be very painful, stressful and difficult to confront. As a professional counsellor I can gently help you explore them in depth, empowering you to move forward. We can explore how your thoughts, feelings and behaviours are linked, and enable you to gain a greater understanding of yourself and how they can be managed. Ultimately, I am here to walk the sometimes painful path with you and together help you find enlightenment and a clearer understanding of what would bring you more happiness and a better quality of life.

It is important that you feel as comfortable as possible with any psychological journey you decide to embark on. Should you have any questions, worries or concerns then please don’t hesitate to contact me as I offer a free 30 minute consultation where we can address your questions. LGBTQ+ affirmative.
