Ian Caley MSc
Addiction therapistAbout Me
Hi, I'm Ian. I'm a dad & husband, a professional, boundaried as a therapist and experienced both academically & first hand in substance misuse/too much drinking/drug use and addiction.
I have two practices in East Sussex, one in Hove and one in Glynde, just outside Lewes. I see clients face to face if they're local and I see clients online if they're from other areas of the UK or abroad.
Clients say that being able to talk completely openly with me about their drinking (or drug use) is very empowering. I've been there and I understand how we can feel- really anxious, very stuck, deceitful, guilty, foggy most of the time and maybe even able to stop for a few days then thinking it'll be ok if we just have a couple.
Maybe you've had a big incident in your life and drink/drug use has been there for you? Or you [think] you need it to be able to function socially?
When we work together, we'll talk about your experience. We'll talk about where you think you are with drinking/using. We'll talk about what it's like for you, and we'll come up with a plan. My clients are normally medium to long term...that tells me they value the depth of the work, and that makes me feel like a lucky man....I get to see people's lives and the lives of their loved ones turn around and change for the better, and I'm here as an 'ordinary' therapist for when the bumps in the road appear, because the fact is- we don't get 'normal' bumps in the road, for us, they're often wheel crunching potholes and we need to know how to navigate them without a drink or a drug. And this we do, waking up with peace of mind and gently, over time, improving self-esteem and self-respect, stronger boundaries and firmer, consistently steady relationships.
