Elizabeth Oliver
Psychodynamic counsellorAbout Me
I'm an experienced counsellor with a demonstrated history of working in the mental health field, with skills in brief-focused and longer term psychotherapeutic counselling. I am a registered and accredited member of BACP with a track record of work within charitable organisations, educational institutions and in independent practice. I have extensive experience as an affiliate counsellor for employee assistance programmes. Before moving into the mental health field, I originally gained a bachelor’s degree in English Language and Literature, from University of Leeds, and worked for a number of years in editorial, public relations and communications roles.
My core training is in psychodynamic counselling. The psychodynamic model focuses on the psychological roots of emotional suffering, with the aim of not just alleviating symptoms, but building the resources for a healthier life. It aims to help us gain awareness and understanding of those aspects of ourselves and our ways of relating with ourselves and others, which might have their origins in our earlier experience and relationships, in ways that may not be initially obvious. I have also trained in the foundations of CBT, and incorporate some CBT tools and thinking into my work.
I am sensitive to the influences of both the past and present in any difficulty aim to provide a supportive, collaborative relationship in which you can feel safe to explore and express your feelings, thoughts and ideas, and find your own answers.
