About Me

*Due to the current situation all sessions will take place via Skype, Whatsapp or phone until further notice*

Hello, I'm Dr Mona Michels, a warm, friendly, and highly experienced Counselling Psychologist in NW London. I specialise in treating anxiety, depression, stress, and much more. Alongside consulting at the Priory and HCA private hospitals I have my own private practice in Elstree / Borehamwood.

I usually offer Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) as the main therapy option, as it's proven to help with a wide range of issues such as depression, anxiety, stress, panic attacks, OCD and so on. CBT might not be appropriate in all situations, in which case I will discuss other therapy options during our first appointment.

You can find more information about CBT on my website - www.monamichels.com

I speak both English and French fluently, and can therefore conduct therapy in either language.

Training and qualifications

My Background:

I chose to become a Counselling Psychologist because I believe it's the most proactive way to help people through the stressses, strains and problems that everyday life can bring. It's also a proven method of supporting and working through more serious issues such as depression, panic attacks, and so on.

I have a Doctorate in Counselling Psychology from London City University (completed 2009), a Masters in Clinical Psychology from Bangor University (completed 2006), and a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from Kent University (completed 2003).

I've spent a number of years working at the renowned Priory Hospital in Southgate, as well as providing therapy in Central London for HCA Group (owners of the prestigious Wellington, Portland and Princess Grace Hospitals), and employees of many blue chip companies.

I still consult at The Priory and at HCA alongside my private practice.

I treat a wide range of issues, including -

  • General anxiety
  • Health anxiety
  • Social anxiety
  • Panic attacks
  • Grief counselling
  • Phobias and Agoraphobia
  • Anxiety related to traumatic experiences
  • Obsessive Compulsive Disorders (OCD)
  • Stress
  • Depression (inc post natal depression)
  • Low self-esteem
  • Perfectionism
  • Anger management
  • Readjustment issues

I work alongside, and take referrals from GPs, psychiatrists and other medical practitioners. I am also happy to take direct bookings from anyone looking for therapy.

Accrediations:

I am a fully registered and accredited member of the three main Psychology organisations in the UK - BPS, HCPC, and BABCP (feel free to check my registration on their websites).

About Therapy Sessions:

Therapy sessions are typically on a weekly basis, lasting 50 minutes each time. At your first consultation we will discuss the possible length of treatment, so that you can make an informed decision about further sessions - I will make a recommendation as to how many initial sessions we should have, but there is never any obligation if you feel you don't wish to continue.
I do recommend us having a brief chat on the phone first (there is no charge for that) - then you can ask me any questions that you may have, and decide whether you'd like to proceed with booking the first session.

How Do I Get Started?

Please drop me an email to [email protected] or you can call me on 020 8123 5766 (if I'm in a session you may get my voicemail, but I will usually call you back the same day).

Health Insurance:

I am registered with every major health insurance company to make it easy for you to pay through your private medical insurance - Axa PPP, Pru Health (& Vitality), Aviva, Cigna, Bupa, Simply Health, and WPA.
