Transactional analysis psychotherapistAbout Me
I never underestimate the courage needed to take that first step to explore what isn't working for you in life. My role is to support you in looking at possible reasons why you feel as you do. I work in the here and now as well as looking back at early life experiences and how they may have impacted on the life you lead now.
I am a transactional analysis (TA) psychotherapist and counsellor. I offer a confidential, non-judgemental and safe counselling setting. I work with both individuals and couples. TA is a very helpful model to help explore why and how we feel about ourselves and our life experiences. It is a modality that is easy to share with clients. That said, I do not bring much theory into the room. The most important thing is for us to establish a comfortable and relaxed relationship so that you can feel confident and safe enough to be able to bring your thinking into the room. Often, just hearing your thoughts out loud, instead of only thinking about them can make a huge amount of difference and make you feel lighter and with a sense of relief and release. To help this happen, I provide a safe, confidential and comfortable space either face to face or online, in which you can begin to explore what is troubling and confusing you. I offer a consistent and gentle approach so that you can begin to make sense of your thoughts and feelings. There will be no judgement at all so that you can be as open as you want to be. My role is to listen and reflect back to you.
My specialisms are anxiety and depression, LGBT issues and specifically those experienced by gay men and couples. I also work with autism, self-esteem, addiction, compulsive sexual behaviours and boarding school survivors.
Prior to being a therapist I was in education for many years in both the primary and secondary sectors, private and state. I have gained years of experience in managing bullying, learning difficulties, adolescence, self-esteem, motivation, parenting and emotional difficulties.
GETTING STARTED:
The first step can feel daunting but if you decide you would like to see me, here is what to do. I don't mind if you email me or call me. If I don't pick up, please leave your name, a message and a contact number and I will get back to you. I offer a free initial session so that we can meet. In that first session, we will talk about what brings you to therapy and what you hope to get from the process. You will also have the chance to ask me questions, for example, about how I work. There is no commitment beyond that first session. If however, you feel that you would like to work with me then we will sort out a regular time and day for you to attend weekly sessions. Each session is 50 minutes. The work is open-ended which means you may only need a few sessions or you may find that you continue in therapy for some time. The space is yours until you decide you no longer need it. If you have issues that are causing anxiety and are impacting on your life, then please get in touch.
I work either face to face or online. In person sessions will be subject to the availability of a space.
