Clare Dudeney
Integrative counsellorAbout Me
I work with clients to unpick and make sense of life difficulties, and to make positive, lasting changes. Short and long term therapy available at my practice in Bedfordshire, and online.
Many factors in our lives can contribute to us losing our way; anxiety and stress being just two. I work from the understanding that the alliance between us as therapist and client will be a catalyst for change in the therapeutic work that we undertake together. My approach is an integrative one, drawing on a number of theories and approaches that I have been trained in. Working collaboratively, we will identify areas in your life where you may be feeling stuck or directionless, and work together to make positive, lasting changes. Counselling provides a safe place for you to explore your thoughts and feelings; we will work together to address your thoughts and feelings and their overall impact on your life and behaviours, habits and happiness.
I am also qualified in Cognitive-Behavioural Hypnotherapy, with Hypnotherapy being an additional tool we can use in therapy if desired. Hypnotherapy can help you achieve a deep, focused attention on an idea or suggestion. We may use Hypnotherapy as an adjunct to therapeutic interventions as a way of cementing new beliefs and ideals. The style of Hypnotherapy that I use is not trance-based; rather a focused state of attention where you are fully present throughout. Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) has been found to have greater, positive outcomes when used alongside Hypnotherapy.
Ultimately, my aim is to provide a safe and positive place for you to explore your concerns and find your own meanings for your experiences.
Regardless of the therapeutic intervention or approach we choose to follow together during therapy, my paramount focus is the working alliance between you, the client, and me, the therapist. Research has shown that greater therapy outcomes are led first and foremost by the therapeutic relationship, than by the specific treatment employed.
“Life as a therapist is a life of service in which we daily transcend our personal wishes and turn our gaze toward the needs and growth of the other. We take pleasure not only in the growth of our patient but also in the ripple effect – the salutary influence our patients have upon those whom they touch in life.”
