Dr Chris James
Cognitive behaviour clinical psychologistAbout Me
Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Sleep Specialist.
I work with a broad range of mental health difficulties and psychological issues including anxiety, depression, panic, OCD, anger, phobias, low self-esteem, traumatic life events, self-loathing/criticism, work-related stress, loss and bereavement, and relationship difficulties. I also have experience in providing psychological support to people adjusting to life-limiting conditions.
I am a sleep and insomnia specialist and have completed training in Sleep Medicine and CBTi. I led the Behavioural Sleep Medicine service in a specialist NHS Sleep Disorders Centre. My bespoke insomnia treatment programme comprises a three-step sleep assessment (including screening for other sleep disorders) followed by a course of CBTi therapy. I also offer support for other sleep disorders including circadian rhythm sleep-wake disorders, parasomnias (including night terrors, sleepwalking etc), paradoxical insomnia, narcolepsy, shift/working pattern-related sleep problems and CPAP adherence issues.
I work in a very flexible, integrative way, drawing from a number of evidence-based therapeutic approaches in order to deliver a therapy that is tailored to your individual needs.
I most frequently draw upon CBT, Mindfulness, Integrative, Psychodynamic, EMDR and Compassion-based approaches in my work.
I can also provide personal development training which can help you to develop psychological skills and strategies to support you in getting the most out of your personal and professional relationships and in working towards achieving the sort of life you want.
Additionally, I regularly provide professional and clinical supervision, consultation and training to a range of professionals including cognitive behavioural therapists, medical consultants, clinical psychologists, nurses, trainee psychologists and therapists and other professional groups. I am a qualified and accredited BABCP supervisor and am on the British Psychological Society's approved supervisor list.
I run a virtual clinic so provide online therapy remotely to you from the comfort of your own home. I offer sessions via Zoom, Skype, FaceTime, WhatsApp or phone - whichever suits you best. You will just need a comfortable, private space with a good internet connection.
