About me

Hello, thanks for looking at my profile. I qualified in 2011 and have been working in private practice, and for the YMCA, NHS Wellbeing service and the Young People's Centre, Brighton ever since, specialising in working with 13-25 year olds. I also worked for Age UK for a year. My youngest clients have been 13, my oldest 92 . I have a broad range of experience, both in counselling and in life, which has given me among other things a very non- judgemental attitude. I work face to face and online. My type of counselling is broadly speaking integrative or humanistic, which means I believe you are the expert on yourself, and that often we just need the right supportive, compassionate and accepting space to find the answers within ourselves. I believe every client is unique, so I work in a different way with each person, and I believe there is not a one size fits all approach. You can expect to be listened to, understood and accepted without judgement, so that you can understand yourself and your situation more clearly. Counselling can also be an opportunity to express feelings that have been bottled up, such as anger, fear, grief or shame, which can help to make them easier to understand and reduce the pain they cause, although sometimes this can make you feel worse before you feel better. There may be some exploration of early relationships, to understand what may have caused your current problems, issues or concerns. I tend to work with what you are experiencing in the present , with the knowledge that past events will have contributed in some ways, to how you are feeling now. I aim to help you to discover and understand more about yourself and your situation, establish your own priorities and find your own solutions, through offering a safe and supportive, and at times challenging space, which empowers you to help yourself and live your life in a more fulfilling way.
