Transactional analysis counselling psychologistAbout Me
I have over 30 years experience of working with individuals, couples and groups and completed my MSc in Psychotherapy in 1996at the Metanoia Institute(with Middlesex University) I also supervise and teach in my capacity as TSTA (Teaching and Supervising Transactional Analyst)
I have extensive experience in working with trauma - single-incident as well as developmental trauma, e.g. childhood abuse or neglect of any description.
With abackground in Psychology and General and Comparative Physiology (PhD 1988)I have retained a keen interest in the neuroscience of psychological distress.
I am trained in EMDR (Eye-Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) as well as several Energy Psychology methods, chiefly used for the treatment of trauma, anxieties and phobias.
I am past co-editor of the Transactional Analysis Journal, published by Sage and have contributed chapters to several books in the field of Relational Transactional Analysis.
I have lived in different continents and made the UK my home 20 years ago. I can work in English, German and Dutch. So Iknow quite a bit about life transitions and living abroad.
I strongly believe that, whatever the modality, it is the relationship that heals - so it is 'horses for courses' when it comes to which therapeutic relationship works and which doesn't. Having said that, I do believe that some therapeutic modalities are more helpful than others. When I came across Transactional Analysis, after completing my formal academic training in Psychology, I immediately felt drawn to it. It can be very used in simple and accessible, as well as in very sophisticated ways. More than anything, it seems to combine the best of psychodynamic/psychoanalytic theory with that of the more cognitive-behavioural approaches. It lends itself to explaining the dynamics between couples and in families as well as an individual's development and how she or he forms their core beliefs about themselves, others and the world in general.
Every time I meet a new client I am curious, willing to learn, and excited about a new journey together. No two life stories are the same. That's why I do what I do. You are welcome to join me in this exploration.
