About Me

I am an individual and group psychotherapist with 24 years NHS & private practice experience. I offer counselling, therapy groups, individual psychotherapy, couples therapy and staff support groups.

I provide a safe & reflective therapeutic space in which to explore and understand a range of emotional problems such as stress, low mood, relationships, self-esteem, eating, trauma & loss. I have worked in GP surgeries as a primary care counsellor and as consultant psychotherapist in Central & North West London NHS Trust.

I began my career with a BA degree in Social Psychology, after which I worked in a number of mental health settings, including residential and day-care, and developed my interest and understanding in the origins of mental health problems. After exploring various types of therapy I was most drawn to the psychoanalytic approach as I feel it is the most potent and effective way to help people to overcome deeply entrenched emotional problems.

About my individual psychotherapy practice

While I trained as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist, I also offer psychodynamic counselling, adapting my approach to your problems as they present themselves. My approach is based on the understanding that difficult experiences in the past can continue to affect the way we feel and behave in the present. This will help you to change how you feel about yourself and other significant people in your life and lead to a reduction in your distressing symptoms.

My private consulting room is in Queens Park, close to the Bakerloo Line and the Overground.

About my psychotherapy groups

I run a once weekly group and a twice weekly group, and have spaces in both groups at the moment.

Group psychotherapy is about the essentially social nature of human beings. The group enables people to feel included and connected, and to overcome any sense of isolation and loneliness. It also enables a greater understanding of your important relationships by focusing on how you are relating within the group. In the group you are likely to feel that you can see aspects of yourself through how others are acting. By giving and receiving feedback on this you will gain a number of perspectives on yourself, and feel a closer connection with others. This can help you to find your voice in your family, work and social groups outside, and to develop a stronger sense of your own identity, as well as help you to improve the quality of your relationships and feel more secure in yourself.

My once weekly group is on Tuesdays from 7.00pm to 8.30pm in West Hampstead and my twice weekly group is on Mondays from 6.45pm to 8.15pm and Thursdays from 7.30am to 9.00am.

The groups have a maximum of 8 members which helps to create a sense of safety and belonging.  People are advised to stay in the group for at least one year. All group members agree to maintain confidentiality.

About couples therapy

Couples therapy can be the better option if your problems are primarily concerning your intimate relationship with your partner. For example, there may be sexual problems, ongoing conflict, issues related to trust, or you may need help in retrieving, separating or ending the relationship. Therapy will focus on understanding the current situation, the history of the relationship, and the patterns from early childhood that are being reactivated for both partners. We will work together to help you to recover, and to develop a healthier and more satisfying relationship.

About reflective practice groups

This is a service I provide for teams in the workplace. It involves a tailor-made intervention which is likely to include a series of meetings with the team in which they are assisted in reflecting on the experience of working together with a view to addressing any problems that are impeding the team's effectiveness. The aim is to unblock any obstacles to working creatively, and to improve the team's capacity to communicate.

If you are interested in what I might be able to offer you, you are welcome to contact me by phone or email, and we can arrange to meet for an initial consultation during which we can discuss how I might be able to help you, and whether a group or individual therapy would suit you best.
