Joe Quince is an online counsellor and coach

What attracted you to become a counsellor?

The positive affect coaching and counselling had on my life made me want to give the same opportunity to others. I want to help people become the best versions of themselves.

Where did you train?

I completed an online Diploma and have also learned a lot from my own experience of counselling, listening and learning from my counsellor.

What kind of issues do work with?

  • Mental health
  • Career
  • Wellness
  • Addiction

Tell us more about the way you work?

My style of counselling and coaching helps people discover their inner ambitions and identify specific goals.

What sort of clients do you usually see?

I specialise in working with males, of all ages from teenagers up to elderly men. One of my unique factors is the ability to help both young and middle-aged men who feel lost on their path.

What trends are you noticing in mental health more broadly?

One common factor I personally have experienced and noticed in many of my clients, friends and family, is the unhealthy amount of time wasted on social media. Limiting this time and becoming more productive with our spare time is key. Social media is full of unrealistic lifestyles and role models who are usual out for self gain rather than helping others. Be careful of click bait!

Do you ever suggest books or other materials to clients?

No, I currently provide a 24hr service, so if clients are feeling as though they are slipping into a dark place they can reach out.

What do you like about being a counsellor?

The reward of helping somebody conquer their personal challenges is unrivalled. For me helping people become happier and more assured in themselves gives me a buzz to keep striving

What is less pleasant?

Seeing people who have such potential not fulfilling their dreams and passions.

What do you wish people knew about counselling?

Although it's scary and can be intimidating, after your first session you’ll realise you should have done this a long time ago. From there you will advise everybody to take coaching / counselling for whatever their needs / goals.

What did you learn about yourself in counselling?

I discovered that it's OK to be unsatisfied; once you accept that, then you are able to turn it into motivation and better the situation.
