About Me

Thank you for wanting to read more about me and my approach to my work. I am a qualified Therapist, working  with adults 18 years of age and upwards. I am based in Leeds City Centre. I offer both short or long-term one to one counselling depending on the individual needs of clients and I am able to offer face-to-face or online sessions where appropriate.

I work in the NHS as frontline staff. My work  has provided me with experience in working with those that live with a chronic condition, fear, stigma and prejudice from others. I am also experience in working with those that have experienced sexual assault, sexual abuse and domestic abuse.  I am experienced in working with a variety of clients facing many different challenges and my approach to my work is consistently  warm, caring, sensitive, compassionate and genuine.

I am experienced in providing support to individuals facing many different difficulties, including:

  • Anxiety, stress, depression, low self-esteem, self-harm.
  • Bereavement, loss and isolation
  • Relationship Issues, sexuality, women's issues, cultural or identity issues
  • Trauma, physical or emotional abuse
  • Chronic Illness
  • Work related issues

I understand that it can be extremely stressful, exhausting and scary to carry such difficult emotions around as we try to manage our daily lives. At times, as individuals, we can feel alone and overwhelmed by our worries and concerns. It is often a daunting step to ask for help, but there is always help available, and the right support at the right time can make a massive difference to a person’s life.

Individuals, we can feel alone and overwhelmed by our worries and concerns. It is often a daunting step to ask for help, but there is always help available, and the right support at the right time can make a massive difference to a person’s life.  For me, everyone needs some support in those difficult times in at their lives, this is part of the experience of being human.

Client Testimonies

Susan provided me with a safe and peaceful environment where I could express my emotions and felt heard, perhaps for the first time in my life.

Her quite gentle support, the questions she directed me to when I felt overwhelmed, helped to ground me and stop my emotions escalating.

The counselling I received has been completely life changing for me with my anxiety and feelings of grief.

Susan’s support allowed me to be honest with myself, to move towards seeing there is a different life for me, within my reach.

Practice description

As a person-centred counsellor I aim to support clients to recognise their own strengths and resources, so that they may work through issues and find solutions to their problems in a way that is right for them. I provide a safe and nurturing environment so that clients feel heard, accepted and able to explore thoughts and feelings without judgement. I work with competence, confidence, empathy and, always have my client’s best interest at heart of the therapeutic relationship.

I work from a humanistic approach that puts the client at the centre of the therapeutic relationship. Taking on the client’s perspective and seeing things as they do helps to facilitate personal growth, change and enables clients to make life choices that are right for them. To embrace the uniqueness of individuals I work in a flexible manner with an aim of interacting in a way that best suits the needs of the individual, after all, ‘one size does not fit all’.
