Simon Imrie
Psychodynamic psychotherapistAbout Me
Hello, I’m Simon. I work in Shoreditch, Brick Lane and specialise in men’s mental health; helping men understand their feelings and so change their lives. Appointments are available weekdays and a variety of times, including evenings.
I offer Psychodynamic Psychotherapy working both with open ended contracts or fixed-term sessions (normally 6-8). Open ended work allows you to explore your feelings and your behaviours in detail and so come to a deeper understanding of what makes you who you are. Fixed-term work focuses on one aspect of life with which you might be struggling so greater attention can be aimed at alleviating specific distress.
“Men often struggle to ask for help especially help with how they feel and the problems they might face. It shouldn’t be like that and it doesn’t have to be. Talking about your worries and expressing your feelings is a strength not a weakness.”
It’s not always helpful to try and categorise difficulties with a label and I do not believe in working to understand a diagnosis but in working to better understand a person. Challenges can perhaps be grouped under a heading and I have experience in the following common areas:
Depression, Anxiety, Relationships, Sexuality, Bereavement, Addiction, Stress.

Training and qualifications
I worked for many years in the NHS: in hospital, GP and community services which gave me extensive experience working with a wide variety of patient groups. Prior to this I also worked with homeless and addiction Charities in East London, helping people heal themselves and rebuild their lives. I am a qualified and accredited Psychodynamic Psychotherapist with a Post Graduate Diploma from the Westminster Pastoral Foundation, underwritten by Roehampton University and a Clinical Supervision Diploma from the highly regarded Minster Centre in North London.
I am a member of and operate under registration with the British Psychoanalytic Council (BPC). I also am registered with the Foundation for Counselling and Psychotherapy (FPC). These registrations ensure published ethical standards and the BPC complaints procedure are operated at all times.
