Sarah McMichael
Psychodynamic psychotherapistAbout Me
I am a counsellor and psychotherapist with over 25 years of experience in many varied settings including the NHS and various London universities. I offer a safe, kind and compassionate space to explore the difficulties you are experiencing. I have worked with many different issues including childhood trauma, family issues and estrangement, anxiety, depression, illness and bereavement , perfectionism, marriage and relationship difficulties and academic and work pressures.
First and foremost it can be hugely helpful to have a confidential, safe space to be heard and understood without judgement. We can often repeat negative patterns of thinking and relating, and psychotherapy also has the potential to bring about a greater awareness of these patterns, which in turn can bring new possibilites. Some people find that short-term support (6-12 sessions) can help to bring clarity to a presenting situation, while others can benefit from longer-term work; what feels right for you is something that we can talk and think about together in the initial appointment.
To begin with we would meet for a 1 hour no-obligation initial consultation where we can explore, in confidence, the issues you would like to talk about. This is, of course, also an opportunity for you to see whether you feel comfortable with me; and we can also think together as to whether this will be the best kind of support for you. This can be in person in my consulting room in Richmond, or via Zoom.
