Self Discovery Counselling
Hello and welcome
I am a humanistic Integrative Counsellor with over Ten years experience offering relational counselling both in my private practice and other public sectors such as school, GP surgeries, Bereavement centres, Mind and Refugee services .
I am registered with the British Association of counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
As a therapist, I am passionate about providing the opportunity for individuals to understand themselves better through sharing their struggles in a safe, non-judgmental environment. The therapy relationship enables people to explore the choices they have made and the patterns they may repeat and feel stuck in, and helps bring about change and news ways of relating. Having the knowledge and understanding of the mainstream approaches such as person-centred, TA, psychodynamic and CBT, has equipped me to offer a holistic approach to various client groups ranging from adolescents to elderlies.
I work with men, women from a range of backgrounds and sexual orientation - all with their own unique history that deserves a chance to be fully understood and explored. I am experienced in working with a wide range of difficulties and issues including relationship and parenting difficulties, anxiety and phobias, depression, the impact of trauma and abuse and loss and bereavement.
I am interested in a person as a whole and work with all that relates to him/her/them from the mind, body to spirit, religion, social contexts, etc. By sensitively attuning to each client's unique needs, I aim to tailor the appropriate strategies for his/her/them therapy process.
I offer both short-term (between 6-12 sessions) and long-term/open-ended counselling.
Living in today's complex and modern life is a challenge which we all face, for which we need strengths and life skills. we are doing well in some areas while perhaps not so much in some other areas of our life. Going through life is like a journey and along the way, we come across lots of hurdles and obstacles. We manage to pass many of these on our own but sometimes too disheartened, tired, confused, anxious to cross and deal with some challenges alone. Realising our strengths and weaknesses is a good guide to cherish and build upon traits that we already have while bringing about the ones that haven't developed so much.
Who to turn to in difficulties and crisis is a personal choice, some of us have supportive friends and family network and some they don't.
Family and friends are great assets to us all but it is not always easy to open up to them nor that they can be objective and non-biased. This is not surprising as we are tied up in an emotional bond with relatives and friends.
Alternatively choosing a professional that you feel comfortable and connected with, provides a safe, confidential and nonjudgemental space, which helps you explore your difficulties and stuck points.
I provide a relaxed but professional environment where individuals can work on issues that are causing distress and anxiety. You can gain confidence and gradually speak about sensitive issues and find some resolution to your problems. In particular disturbances from your past can cause anxiety, unhappiness, even depression. I offer you sensitive paced help so you can understand and gain relief from these symptoms. My initial consultation helps us to explore what type of help you are looking for. This may be open-ended, offering clients an opportunity to explore difficult areas and understand themselves and their relationships better so they make more informed and creative choices. I can also offer time-limited counselling, if appropriate, which will focus on agreed issues for a specific number of sessions and help you to deal with that area more constructively.
I continue to train in specialist areas to keep my practice up to date.
I have regular supervision which helps me reflect on my work.
I adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy.
I have professional Liability and Professional Indemnity Insurance.
