About me

As a psychodynamic psychotherapist I believe that our emotional distress/difficulties in the present often has its roots in the past. In response to difficult and painful early life experience we can unconsciously develop unhelpful and destructive ways of being and relating which we carry with us into adulthood and continue to repeat and which ultimately prevent us from becoming our authentic fulfilled self.  By creating a space in therapy to explore and understand this we can develop the capacity to relate to our personal narrative, our experiences, stories, memories, feelings, beliefs and relationships in a more reflective yet active way, leading to greater awareness,  self-acceptance and the potential for transformation and positive lasting change. I usually suggest meeting for a 1 hour without obligation initial consultation where you can tell me about yourself and why you are seeking therapy and also get a sense as to whether you would feel comfortable working with me going forward. If you decide you would like to take up therapy with me, we would find a time to meet each week, with a therapy session lasting 50 minutes. I offer open-ended therapy arrangements where issues can be worked on in depth and also time-limited arrangements of between 12 to 20 sessions if you would like to work with a specific focus. I am a member of the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP accred.), the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP) and The Foundation for Psychotherapy & Counselling and work within, uphold and promote the codes of ethics of these professional bodies.
