I specialise in working with young adults in their 20s and early 30s and helping you navigate the many pressures and uncertainties that come with this stage of life. You might be worried about how a relationship is going, or struggling to find or maintain relationships. You might be feeling lost or unsure about the direction you want to take in life. Perhaps you have been feeling something is not quite right for some time but have felt you can't reach out for help and need to manage on your own? Maybe you've never felt you had permission to not be OK?
I'm also experienced in helping people with issues around low self-esteem and feelings of not fitting in. You might have carried this sense with you for a long time, from childhood onwards, or it may have emerged more recently.
Therapy is about creating spaces where we can begin to make sense of your current difficulties so you can find new ways forward with more clarity and feel more at ease with your choices in life. Counselling and therapy can be helpful in tough times and when you feel anxious, sad or stuck - although you don't have to be in a crisis to come to therapy. I have worked with people who want to resolve longstanding issues or heal from traumatic past experiences, as well as those who want a space to explore their feelings around life transitions or want help to gain a fresh perspective on a situation in their current life.
Starting with a new therapist or coming to therapy for the first time can feel like a big step. Many people find that therapy will also quickly become a space for you in your busy week, and somewhere you feel seen and supported. It's a space where you can share all your thoughts and feelings with someone outside of your daily life, without fear of being judged. That said, I don't take it for granted that you'll feel safe right away - the feeling of safety and trust is something we build over time.
The therapeutic relationship between therapist and client is a key element of the work, and where real change can happen. I understand it can be difficult to choose a therapist and I invite you to get in touch to see if we connect.
My approach to therapy is psychodynamic, which briefly put means I believe our life experiences and family relationships influence our thoughts, feelings, behaviour and current relationships. Understanding more about these patterns will help you to approach situations in life with more clarity going forward because it gives you a different perspective on things.
You might feel you know a lot about your problems but feel stuck and unable to make changes. All of us are influenced by aspects of ourselves that we are less conscious of, and part of the task of psychodynamic therapy is to become more aware of these thoughts, feelings and patterns. This process can sometimes take a little time, but many people find it's also a really worthwhile investment in themselves because it can lead to lasting change, personal growth, and improves your mental wellbeing long term.
As everyone is different, your therapy will also be a unique process and tailored to your needs.
We can discuss the duration of therapy when we meet and agree to work on an open-ended basis or for a specific number of sessions.

My usual fee for an initial consultation is £70, and ongoing sessions are in the range of £60-75 thereafter. I also operate a sliding scale and have lower fee places available for those on lower incomes if the cost of therapy is a concern for you.
Training and qualifications
I have worked with people from all walks of life from busy professionals and university students to people living in very difficult circumstances.
I am a BACP registered counsellor and therapist and completed three years of post-graduate training at the Manor House Centre for Counselling & Psychotherapy to gain a Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling and Therapy.
I also hold a

* Certificate in Online & Telephone Counselling
* and a Certificate in Bereavement Care (Cruse)
Additionally, I hold a MA degree in Gender & Culture (Sociology). Before and alongside my career as a therapist, I have worked with mental health service users for over 10 years.
As a therapist, alongside my private practice, I have worked in various organisations in the charity sector including a bereavement support service and a women's centre. Up until recently, I also worked as an honorary psychotherapist at a long term psychotherapy service at St. Mungo's offering therapy for people with often complex presentations and traumatic backgrounds.
As part of my training and personal development I have also had many years of therapy myself.
