About Me

In the current covid-19 pandemic, I have switched my psychotherapy practice to work remotely, mostly by Zoom and phone. I have clear guidance about how I go about this safely on my website, www.deborahabrahams.co.uk on the dedicated page entitled Remote Psychotherapy. I am committed to providing a thoughtful and supportive space within which to explore your difficulties. I have worked remotely for some time, both in offering supervision and psychotherapy. While this is not the same as working in person, it is still possible to make good use of psychotherapy offered in this medium. If you want to start psychotherapy for the first time in this way, I will offer a consultation process where we can think about how suitable this medium is for you and agree a way forward.

I am an experienced, chartered clinical psychologist and psychoanalytic psychotherapist with over 25 years of relevant work experience (including 15 years of NHS experience) and a proven track record of helping hundreds of people with wide-ranging problems. I am passionate about making a difference in the lives of my patients when facing the challenges modern life throws up for all of us.

WHAT TO EXPECT:

After careful consultation as part of an assessment process, I will suggest the best way forward for your particular difficulties. I am realistic, flexible and grounded in my approach and can offer a range of different interventions, tailor-made to your specific needs. My work is informed by my NHS experience and solid network with local GPs and services. If I feel that another service is better suited to address your presenting problem, then I will make that recommendation.

I am experienced in working with people of diverse backgrounds and beliefs. I have a particular interest in helping people with key transition points in life, whether this is coping with the corona virus lockdown, new parenthood, empty nests, marriage, divorce, career changes, loss and trauma.

I offer a sliding scale, depending on the frequency and type of therapy. Individual therapy fees range from £80 - £100 per session. Some low fee sessions are available - please enquire about these if you are interested. If you have medical aid, please check if I am a registered provider with your scheme. Sessions last fifty minutes and take place weekly, at the same time and day each week. Bills are given at the end of the calendar month and are payable by your next session. Please let me know if you are having difficulty in settling your bill and terms of payment can be arranged.

Training and qualifications

CREDENTIALS:

When choosing a therapist, there are lots of people claiming to be qualified to deal with every problem under the sun. Do make sure you are in safe hands with an appropriately accredited practitioner. I hold a BA Honours, H.D.E. and Masters degree in Clinical Psychology as well as having a five year professional qualification as a psychoanalytic psychotherapist. I am a senior member of the British Psychotherapy Foundation and am also registered with the British Psychological Society, Health & Care Professions Council and the British Psychoanalytic Council. I am governed by the standards of conduct, performance and ethics of all these four bodies.

SUPERVISION & TEACHING:

In addition, I am the Programme Director of Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy at the Anna Freud National Centre as well as a DIT supervisor and trainer. I train around the UK and internationally. I have presented papers at conferences and am invited to teach on doctoral Clinical Psychology  program at UCL and the University of Essex. I regularly attend training and read widely to keep abreast of the latest developments in the field. Please get in touch if you want to arrange supervision of your DIT or other psychotherapy work.
