Online Relationship Therapy
Life can sometimes be tough and people take up therapy for all sorts of reasons but mostly I work with those who are concerned about their intimate relationship. Most of life's difficulties can be faced if everything is all right at home, but when your relationship isn't going well it can make everything else seem so much harder to cope with. If that's how it's feeling for you right now, counselling with me could be the answer.
At the start of a new relationship things generally go well of course, but inevitably over time things happen and your circumstances change. For example, you have a child, then another, you move house or change jobs. Some changes are welcome and planned for. Others aren't, such as illness, redundancy, ageing. But whether the change is one you want or one you don't, dealing with it can put strain on your relationship while you adjust to your new situation. Counselling provides a time and space to think things through.
My core training was with Relate and I have many years experience working with individuals and couples, and people in polyamorous and non-monogamous relationships. I'm committed to providing a professional counselling and psychotherapy service online in a confidential and non judgemental environment.
No two relationships are alike. I will help you think about how you'd like your relationship to be and how to get there.
Many couples are able to improve their relationship through counselling with me, and most likely that will be the case for you, but there are no guarantees that things will change for the better and sometimes during counselling couples decide to separate. If that's the case for you, I can help you separate in a more amicable and constructive way.
Often couples attend appointments together, but counselling can still be worthwhile if your partner doesn't want to join you, by helping you get a clearer perspective on things for yourself.
At the first meeting you can tell me about what's concerning you and we can think together about whether counselling is the best way forward. If it is, we can take some time to consider the frequency of sessions and appointment times and book a series of appointments to suit. I usually suggest that we arrange sessions on a weekly basis at the same time each week but don't worry if that's not possible for you. I can be flexible. You can book as many or as few sessions as you wish
My primary interest is in relationship counselling and psychotherapy but I recognise that relationship problems are sometimes either caused by or lead to other issues, for example anxiety and depression. GP's recognise that anxiety or depression in one or both partners has a profound affect on the couple relationship and nowadays refer patients for counselling or psychotherapy when this is the case. I'm trained to work with couples using a model which was designed by The Tavistock Centre for Couple Relationships to meet NICE guidelines.

Many of my clients tell me at the end of counselling that they have found it helpful, and this is often because it has enabled them to talk about things that they haven't been able to take up together before, or have not been able to talk about in a constructive way. Relationship counselling isn't a quick fix, but it is a way of getting to the bottom of things and moving on.
