Dr Alexa Roxborough
Cognitive behaviour clinical psychologistAbout Me
I am a chartered senior clinical psychologist and BABCP-accredited cognitive-behavioural therapist offering highly effective CBT for anxiety disorders. I specialise in:
obsessive-compulsive disorder,
health anxiety,
panic disorder and agoraphobia,
specific phobia of vomiting (emetophobia)
post-traumatic stress disorder,
generalised anxiety disorder,
hoarding,
body dysmorphic disorder.
I have particular expertise in perinatal and maternal OCD, and am experienced in working with lesser-known forms of OCD such as mental contamination.
Furthermore, I am well-versed in working with the relationship difficulties and low mood that can arise in the presence of anxiety disorders and postnatal mental health problems.
My style is warm, informal, and collaborative. I passionately believe in 'doing what works' in therapy- for anxiety disorders this usually involves exposure and facing fears. However, this is always done entirely at your own pace and in a manageable way. I am a scientist-practitioner and always follow the evidence base. The evidence for CBT for anxiety disorders can be found in the NICE guidelines

Training and qualifications
I trained as a clinical psychologist at University College London before completing Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapies at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, Kings College London.
I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (registration number: PYL32690) and accredited by the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies.
In my NHS work I am based at a national specialist service for anxiety disorders and trauma.
My role is in a parental anxiety team, which has provided me with a lot of experience in treating pregnant women and new parents with anxiety disorders and trauma- particularly perinatal OCD and birth trauma arising from difficult birth experiences and birth injuries.
I recently worked as a therapist on a randomised clinical trial comparing standard weekly treatments with intensive CBT for anxiety disorders in pregnancy, which has expanded my proficiency in using exposure-based treatments in pregnancy (an area in which many clinicians lack confidence) and delivering intensive treatments.
