Music psychotherapistAbout Me
I am a qualified, HCPC registered Arts Therapist. I am a compassionate, creative and non-judgmental therapist. I've worked in NHS in-patient settings and in the community. Mostly with adults experiencing mental health issues. I've worked with psychoanalytic organisations and am interested in Jungian and transpersonal theories.
I am offering Supportive Music and Imagery sessions, via the Zoom platform.
Supportive Music & Imagery is a deep and creative form of therapy. It uses music, art-making and mindfulness techniques to connect a person with their inner resources and strengths. This technique goes right to the heart of who someone is. It connects people with nourishing, healing parts of their true self which, for whatever reason, they may have lost touch with.
It lends itself very well to online working.
In sessions, I help people to identify and connect with positive moments, memories and experiences - no matter how big or small. Together, we then find a piece of music which seems to capture and hold some of these positive feelings. The connection to this feeling, memory or experience is deepened through the music, and through mindfulness techniques.
The client is then invited to make an image, creating a symbol of their inner resource.
We then spend some time reflecting on the image, the process and what it means to the client.
This technique is not about dwelling on the past, though it can help people to move forwards in their lives after difficult and traumatic events. However, this is a gentle form of therapy, and it can even be enjoyable!
This is an excellent technique for giving a person resources during challenging times in their life, for reconnecting people with important feelings, and for getting people in touch with their creativity. This technique often touches on the spiritual, and can offer people profound and meaningful moments.
I have mostly worked with adults experiencing mental health challenges such as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder and psychosis. I have worked with people suffering from addictions of all kinds. I have worked with people experiencing suicidal ideation. I think this technique is particularly useful for people who are navigating big life events, changes and challenges. I do not tend to pathologise and am interested in hearing from and getting to know you as a person, your life experiences, and what you hope to get from therapy.
I offer an assessment session for a fee of £30. This lasts for an hour and a half and includes some time for questions, as well as an initial experience of Supportive Music & Imagery. Ongoing sessions are £45 on weekdays/evenings and £50 through Saturday. Concessional rates are available to those on low-income, students and therapy trainees - please inquire.
Please do get in touch with any questions or inquiries.
