Aisha Akhtar
Person-centred/humanisticAbout Me
Hi, I’m Aisha! Before I tell you a bit about me, I would just like to acknowledge the important step you have taken to find a counsellor. I’m aware it can be an anxious and daunting experience, that’s why it’s important to find the right counsellor for you. You may be going through a difficult time in your relationship, work life or struggling to explore your emotions; it’s important to explore what is going on for you.
In order for us to grow, it’s important for us to express our emotions. And to feel validated for our emotions. Whether that’s to cry, laugh, scream or just sit in silence. As therapists it’s our role to hold your emotions, no matter what they are and to encourage your growth and watch you blossom.
As a person-centred counsellor, it would be my responsibility to offer a safe space where you will receive empathy, congruence and no judgement. This will be a space to explore your feelings, experiences and whatever is going on for you.
I truly believe in person-centred therapy as a tool to aid clients in believing in their true selves. Rogers argued that a person’s ‘true’ or ‘organismic’ self contains a person’s desire to self actualise. Introjects are beliefs, values and experiences that are taken from significant others and assimilated into our self concept as if they are our own, for example, family habits, prejudice and morality. In therapy, the aim is to aid our clients to self-actualise by given them a safe place to explore and accept their true selves.
It’s important to find the right counsellor for you and this process can be very daunting. That’s why I offer a free 15 minute consultation to discuss what it is you’re wanting from counselling and if we are a right fit. If you would like any additional information then please don’t hesitate to contact me.
