Tanis TaylorGestalt psychotherapist
I am a gestalt counsellor working in Hackney. I offer one-to-one sessions in a warm, un-judgemental atmosphere helping you explore your issues with creativity and curiosity. I believe that through a supportive dialogue we can understand more, restore vitality and live in fuller contact.
I know that coming to see a counsellor for the first time can be nerve-wracking. I offer a safe, friendly space – a quiet room at Hackney City Farm - where together we can begin to build trust and explore what you are living through. You won’t have to talk about anything you don’t want to. And where you are unclear, we might use movement, experiment and enquiry to discover more.
My specialism in Developmental Somatic Psychotherapy (DSP) means I may look to body process to highlight the things that sit outside of your awareness. Working together, at a pace that suits you, we will look at the blocks and the un-helpful behaviours, seen and unseen, that could be restricting you in your life, and work to reanimate growth.
I have been working with clients since 2014 and have experience with a wide range of issues including anxiety and esteem, depression, burnout, parenting, loss, creative blocks, chronic conditions and relationship issues. As a writer I bring a familiarity with the creative process to the intimacy of the counselling experience and as a dancer trained in DSP I have a particular interest in our non-verbal communications - what we are saying when we are not talking. I work long, and short term with clients. During the pandemic I am working online, outdoors in our walled garden, walking and, when the guidance suggests, face-to-face in a well ventilated room adhering to COVID-secure safety measures.
‘There is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist… The world will not have it. It is not your business to determine how good it is nor how valuable nor how it compares with other expressions it is your business to keep it yours clearly and directly, to keep the channel open.’
