About Me

Hi, my name is Matt and I'm an Integrative counsellor with 12 years post qualification experience.  My aim is to build a relationship of trust, help you understand the difficulties you may be dealing with so you can make choices towards living the life you want.

Sounds easy in words right? I've sat in the client chair and starting counselling is daunting and going through the process is hard as it will more than likely bring up uncomfortable emotions, thoughts, memories, realisations and truths.  However, and this is the good bit i'd like to be part of, with enough empathy, time, compassion and understanding changes can be made.

Over the years I've worked with clients of all ages from from all walks of life struggling with issues such as depression, anxiety, panic attacks, loneliness, bereavement, relationship issues, family issues, trauma, OCD, sexual abuse, childhood trauma.  More often than not and I include myself in this, clients will say something along the lines of "I wish I'd had counselling sooner." I get it, but all we have is now so please feel free to get in touch.

You've no doubt read many wonderful profiles on Welldoing.org from caring professionals offering different approaches to support you.  Us counsellors aren't meant to offer advice but I'll make an exception, research has shown that the most important element for a positive outcome in counselling is the strength of the relationship the client has with their therapist.

With the above in mind, I offer a free 30 minute session where we can get to know each other, talk about what is going on in your life, your hopes for counselling and ask me questions.  You can then take some time to decide if I'm a good fit for you.  Your introductory session also give me a chance to assess whether I'm the right counsellor to work with you on your issues.  For example you may talk about an issue that I don't have a huge experience of working with but know of a counsellor I can put you in touch who does.

Ultimately, whether it's myself or another counsellor I hope you find what you need.

Take care,

Matt
